Lose the
Holiday Weight Gain |
|
| |
|
|
| |
Rumor has it that the average weight
gain during the holiday season is 7 pounds. Fact or fiction? According
to a recent study, the answer is good news and bad news. 195 people
were weighed before, during, and after the holidays. The average weight
gain was only about three-quarters of a pound. That’s the good
news. |
|
| |
|
|
| |
Now the bad news.
Holiday weight gain accounted for one-half of the study group’s
total weight gain over the year. And what’s worse, those who
started out overweight gained the most weight. Gaining three quarters
of a pound over the holidays may not be that big a deal, but if
you gain a pound and a half per year and don't take it off you'll
be 15 pounds heavier in 10 years! |

So what should you do to counter this
problem? Skip the parties? Not necessarily. After all, the holidays
come only once a year. Moderation is the key to surviving the holidays
without having your clothes a little tighter come January. By all
means enjoy the parties, but don’t go on an empty stomach. A
light healthy meal or a filling, nutritional snack will help you have
the willpower to say no to that tempting tray of fudge. |

As hurried as you are during this season
rushing from the mall to party after party, it is crucial to make
time for exercise. To ensure that you make it to the gym, schedule
your workout on your calendar or make an appointment with a personal
trainer. Time is a precious thing during this season. A personal trainer
can help you through a quick 30 minute workout so that you optimize
your time. |

|
|
| |
If you don’t have time to make
it to the gym, don’t sweat it. Go for a 10 minute walk around
the neighborhood. Even a little exercise is better than nothing. You’ll
be surprised how energized and refreshed you feel! And if you aren’t
currently on an exercise program, don’t wait until January.
By then you’ve probably already gained the weight. |
|
| |
|
|
| |
Now is the time to take charge of your
health. Instead of promising yourself that next year will be the year
you finally get in shape, decide that this is the year you end on
a positive note. You won’t reach your fitness goals by the end
of the year, but you will skip the holiday weight gain and be one
step ahead to a fit and healthy New Year! |
